Astrophotography by Mario Cogo

About the photographer

My name is Mario Cogo and I live in Cavazzale, a small village near Vicenza the Palladio's Home in Italy where I was born in 1960. By day I'm lighting designer and photography, astronomy and music are my passions. I first became interested in Astronomy in July 1969 when I saw the Apollo 11 to land on the moon, but I first started shooting wide-field astrophotos in 1996 with the great comet Hale-Bopp. During this long period my primary interest was music, I played guitar in several blues, rock, funky and jazz band, so I' ve made wide-field observations mainly only through binoculars and little telescopes.

Actually I spend my free time for photography and astrophotography with my friends Marco Lorenzi and Gianpaolo Salvato. Unfortunately in the north of Italy we suffers from terrible lighting pollution, so we have to move to the mountain or during the holidays I travel to La Palma, one of the Canary Islands where the quality of the sky is probably one of the best in the northern emisphere.
