California Nebula - NGC 1499

 

This large and faint emission nebula located in the constellation of Perseus is NGC1499 known as the California Nebula. It's very difficult to see in a telescope and only with long photographics exposure is possible to capture the tiny and intricate details.

 

- Date / Location : 18/10/2001 from Roques de los Muchachos 2400mt. "La Palma" (Canary Island - Spain)
13/01/2002 from Cima Larici Asiago 1600mt.  (Vicenza - Italy)
- Optics / Lens : Astro-Physics Traveler 105mm f/6 EDFS  with AP Field Flattener - Nikon F3 
- Mount / Guide : Astro-Physics GE-600E GTO autoguided by SBIG ST4
- Exposure / Film : Composite of two 30-minute on Kodak PJ400 Film and one 40-minute on Kodak E200 Film
- Processing : Film scanned at 2700 dpi with Nikon CoolScan LS30 scanner, enhanced with Adobe Photoshop 6.0
- Note : Dry climate and windy from Roques. Good sky with 10 below zero from Cima Larici.
