Astrophotography by Mario Cogo

Rho Ophiuchus Region

This is my preferred sky area and probably one of the most beautiful regions of the entire night sky. Antares the Alpha Scorpii is the red-giant star close to the center of the image and it is sorrounded by an yellow reflection nebula. The globular cluster M4 is just to the right with the emission nebula Sh2-9  around the Sigma Scorpii star just to the north . At the center top the three stars of Rho Ophiuchus which are sorrounded by the blue reflection nebula IC4604. Dark nebulae also are visible in the center and they hide the background stars.
